South Carolina Baptist vocational evangelist Frank Shivers is the author of a recently published handbook on basic Christian values entitled “Growing in Knowledge, Living by Faith.”
The book begins with the declaration that “Christian growth is work” and sets up a six-week study schedule that begins with Christian beliefs and witnessing and concludes by delving into the topics of church and understanding God’s will.
Following up on his emphasis on Christian growth as work, Shivers, a graduate of Charleston Southern University and New Orleans Seminary, says in his introduction that Christians must “dig out of their salvation its fullest blessings, beliefs and benefits” and that the rewards are “well worth the effort.”
The author of 11 books says his latest effort is intended as a curriculum for pastor classes, Sunday school programs, camps and retreats. “Growing in Knowledge,” he says, is helpful to new believers or to church members for personal study.
Previous books by Shivers, who has been involved in vocational evangelism since 1974, have focused on soul winning, evangelistic preaching and revivals.
