Love sinner, not sin

The Baptist Courier

Reading what pastor Bryant Wright said (“Gay students protest SBC president’s honorary degree,” April 28), I did not see anything that made it out that he was saying homosexuality is okay in God’s eyes. What I interpreted him saying was that God loves homosexuals, but does not condone homosexuality.

We are to love everyone, but that does not mean we accept their behavior. If you truly love someone, you love them as a child of God, and you would want them to change their ways. I love my son, but that doesn’t mean when he disobeys me that I am saying his bad behavior is okay. I love him because he is my son, but I desire that he change his behavior. That is how we should treat everyone. We should love them, and through that love we should encourage them to see the error of their way and change. We should not quit loving someone because of their sin. If that is the case, then none of us are lovable.
