Utilize older pastors

The Baptist Courier

Since I was 16 years old, I have been nurtured by Southern Baptists. After 55 years as a pastor and preacher, I am now sort of mature. Churches have been good to my family and me. I must say I received more than I could deserve.

The Lord used pastors, retired pastors and lay people to challenge me and meet my needs. I appeal to churches to utilize the abilities of these older fellows. They are a special group. Some have served in churches with unity built around missions, like the church I served for 30 years. Some retirees, however, have spent much of their time in struggling churches. Utilize them – all of them.

Also, older fellows, be an encourager in the church you attend for worship, and team with your pastor in love.

Remember Matthew 5:14: “You are the light of the world.” Let it shine.
