In the part-time position, Fallaw will be responsible for “enhancement of ministry relationships and financial development,” according to an SCBMA news release. The ministry’s board approved the new role in February to “better communicate the activities” of SCBMA’s two retirement communities: Martha Franks, in Laurens, and Bethea, in Darlington.

“I am very excited about Weldon joining our team,” said SCBMA president Tom Turner. “With his in-depth knowledge of South Carolina Baptists and their work, I feel he will greatly assist us in communicating how our ministry is daily accomplishing its mission.”

Fallaw began his 28-year career with the foundation in 1981 as vice president, when the foundation was managing assets with a fair-market value of about $12 million. Trustees named Fallaw president in May 2000; assets were worth nearly $57 million. As of December 2009, assets under foundation management were valued at more than $75 million.

A native of Union, Fallaw and his wife Jane have two children and three grandchildren. They are members of State Street Church in Cayce, where he is a deacon and Sunday school director.
