Before changes were instigated within our Southern Baptist churches during the decade of the 1980s, the doxology was sung as part of our worship services. Things began to turn back positively in the 1990s, except for one important item – the singing of the doxology.
The doxology is the one vehicle that all Christian denominations sing during their worship services (except most Southern Baptist) and is a wonderful teaching tool, reminder and praise that God is three in One, the Trinity.
The doxology was written by Thomas Ken in the year 1695 and is based on one of the Psalms. The words of this glorious song are as follows:
“Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.”
