In response to “Plea for complete gospel” (“Your Views,” June 9), I firmly agree that the responsibility for the moral decline of America should be laid at the foot of the church. However, not only is the gospel not being taught completely, gone are basic ethics and the horror of all modern thought, deportment, the way the lost public looks at us. The shame of no longer teaching our young people and new converts that it does matter what you look like on the outside as well as on the inside. Modesty of dress and a clean appearance should mark a child of God. “Cut your hair,” “Cover up,” “Don’t cut, pierce or mark yourself, even with religious icons” are not old-fashioned, out-of-date ideas.
I believe these things are biblical, provided you’re using the proper translation of the Bible and not some new guru of “get ’em in by any means.” Quite frankly, if your neighbors look out on Sunday and can’t tell if you’re going to church or to the lake or to Grandma’s, then there’s a testimony problem. God gave His best, so should we. Don’t just say it; live and show it.
