A ministry based in Gaffney is helping families in Alabama recover following the recent storms that devastated the area.

Parson’s Pantry, operated by former pastor Ron Jackson and his wife Karen, has been able so far to assist 12 families in need of help. Parson’s Pantry has worked in cooperation with the Alabama Baptist Convention and the Tuscaloosa Baptist Association to pinpoint areas of need.

“Since its inception,” said Ron Jackson, “Parson’s Pantry has been blessed by the Lord with the resources to assist 315 needy families overall, and we were able to send $8,400 to help these 12 families in Alabama.”

David Hariston, pastor of Henegar Baptist Church, lost his mother and his home in the tornado.” This financial support,” he wrote to Jackson, “will help us rebuild and put our lives back together.”

Larry Corder, pastor of Alberta Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, said, “Words are inadequate to express what a blessing your gift has meant to me and my dear wife. The Lord has used your gift to once again remind us that he has not forsaken us. The trials we are experiencing are by far the most challenging of our lives. My wife is going through cancer treatments, and our church was destroyed.”

For a pastor’s widow in Tuscaloosa, the South Carolina tie was strong. “I couldn’t believe God’s love and blessing. When I saw the Gaffney, South Carolina, address, I immediately thought of my 100-year-old mother’s love for Limestone College. Our Father knew our need. Your gift arrived in his time.”

“We hope South Carolina Baptists will continue to help the Lord’s servants in Alabama,” said Jackson. “Many others need assistance – such as the widow of a pastor who lost her home, a retired pastor who also lost his home, and a pastor whose daughter and son-in-law were killed.”
