South Carolina Baptist Convention president Sonny Holmes and his wife Harriet are mourning the loss of their son, Brian Eliot Holmes, 33, who died July 18.
In addition to his parents, Holmes is survived by his wife, Katherine Williams Holmes, of Columbia, a sister, Elizabeth Holmes Carpenter (Scott) of Lexington, and his grandfather, Chester H. Holmes Sr. of Greenville.
At his blog, “Just the Right Words,” Sonny Holmes has expressed his appreciation for the love and support of family and friends.
Brian Holmes was a graduate of Riverside High School in Greer and The Citadel. He was a member of the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the AICPA. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Northwood Church, North Charleston, where Sonny Holmes is pastor. The family will receive visitors at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday.
