David and Heather Petro

David and Heather Petro, most recently of Rock Hill, have been appointed missionaries to the sub-Saharan people of Africa.

The Petros were commissioned June 15 in Phoenix, Ariz., by the International Mission Board at the conclusion of the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention.

David previously served since September 2006 as minister of education and students at Northside Church in Rock Hill. A graduate of Southwestern Seminary and Gardner-Webb University, he served with the IMB as a journeyman to Botswana from 1998-2000. He also has taken short-term mission trips to Zambia, Kenya and the Dominican Republic.

Heather, a stay-at-home mom for the couple’s three young children (Makayla, 5; Elijah, 4; Karissa, 2), was previously an elementary school teacher. She graduated from Southwestern Seminary and Texas State University. In addition to serving in an orphanage in Romania during her summer teaching breaks, she has been on short-term trips to Guatemala and Kenya.
