Letter: Correcting the record

The Baptist Courier

I wanted to inquire about a statement in the Aug. 18 issue of the Courier in the “Commentary” section. The statement is: “Prior to approval of the GCR report by the 35-member task force, leaders at every level of state convention work – from the Executive Board of the SCBC to the seven ministry partners – agreed to cuts in CP funding necessary to fund a 50/50 equivalency of division of CP funds between the state convention and the International Mission Board.”

No agreement has been made by the leadership of the Executive Board concerning this issue. No one officially approached the board leadership to inform us or to get any input for the GCR task force work before it was revealed. I understand that the seven ministry partners had some form of their leadership represented on the GCR task force (by design), but not the Executive Board. There have been some misunderstandings with that issue.

The board is just now trying to absorb and react to the recommendations. We are dealing with the SCBC Bylaws Committee and looking at the budget process, among other things.

We regret the error. – Editor
