The Executive Board of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, meeting Oct. 10-11 at White Oak Conference Center, elected Lee Clamp to the position of director of the SCBC’s evangelism group. Clamp serves as missional pastor of First Baptist Church, Barnwell.

The board approved an expenditure of $136,000 toward a structural improvement at White Oak Conference Center. A 2011 storm destroyed an open-air structure that covered a recreation area near the swimming pool. An improved structure, being built in the same area, requires $136,000 in addition to insurance funds paid on the destroyed structure. The $136,000 was approved from the convention’s fund balance to be repaid by White Oak Conference Center over 33 months.

The board also heard a report from the properties committee concerning improvements at Camp McCall and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry property at the University of South Carolina campus in Columbia. The committee also reported approval of White Oak Conference Center’s 2013 rate structure with “minimal increases.”

The board recognized Emery Smith, retired campus ministry director, who has served for 11 years as a part-time consultant to the board’s scholarship committee. A member at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, Columbia, Smith has served South Carolina Baptists for 33 years and assisted more than 4,000 college and seminary students in receiving more than $3 million in financial aid.
