Letters: Keep ‘Southern’ in SBC

The Baptist Courier

Sometimes it becomes necessary for those of us in the pews to stand up and stop initiatives that are wasteful and counterproductive, that sidetrack us, consuming valuable time and resources and causing unnecessary division. The notion that we should change the name of our Southern Baptist Convention is a classic example. It smells of “political correctness,” which seems to be invading every aspect of our culture and society. “Southern” is an adjective of integrity. This effort is offensive to millions of us. We have better things to do than this.
