Waccamaw Association’s “ZOWIE!”, a WMU event focusing on state missions for children in grades 1 through 6, was held Sept. 10 at North Conway Baptist Church.

Children in Action from Pleasant Meadow Baptist Church prepare cards and write thank-you notes to soldiers.

More than 100 children learned about the Season of Prayer for State Missions and the Janie Chapman Offering for State Missions, missions education, and Experience Kingdom Life.

Mickey Hyman, a certified Royal Ambassador consultant, coordinated the program. “There is nothing more important than children learning about and praying for missions and how they can help,” said Hyman.

Missionaries Tim and Maggie Rice spoke about chaplaincy, literacy, and international students, through which children learned the significance of praying for and giving to missions.

Children prayed, answered questions in “My One Day Journal” booklets, wrote thank-you cards to soldiers, gathered non-perishable canned goods for a missions project, and collected change for the Janie Chapman Offering.

Victory Baptist Church had the most children and leaders in attendance, with 33. Cedar Grove Baptist Church gave the most change for the offering. Children provided seven boxes of canned goods for Churches Assisting People and gave an offering of $100.

Jeff Gaskins, pastor at North Conway Baptist Church, set the tone for the event in his opening remarks as he challenged parents to support and encourage their children when they sense God’s call to missions. Children are a gift from God, he said, and only “on loan” to parents.
