Kelley, who currently serves as the state convention’s second vice president, is the second announced nominee for first vice president, joining Terry E. Pleasant, pastor of Little Mountain Baptist Church, Wellford.

Kelley’s name will be placed in nomination by Frankie Melton, pastor of Heath Springs Baptist Church.

Kelley is a graduate of Liberty Baptist Seminary, where he received a master of arts in theological studies. He has served in the ministry for more than 17 years.

Kelley said he is a “huge supporter of the Cooperative Program, our state institutions, as well as the SBC missionaries both here and around the world.”

“I was honored and humbled when Dr. Melton approached me and asked if I would consider allowing him to nominate me for such a servant role,” Kelley said. “My hope in this role is that I may continue to be a help in searching out God’s will for the SCBC in the coming years.

“These are daunting times for the SCBC and for Southern Baptists across the nation, but nothing is impossible for the Lord. Harmony and unity for God’s divine will should be the keys to the SCBC’s future.”
