A new sculpture awaits visitors to the North Greenville University campus. “The Great Commission: The World, The Word, and the Rock” has been positioned in front of the new Craft-Hemphill Center for Evangelism, Missions and Christian Worldview.

“Great Commission,” the fourth such piece of art on the NGU campus, was sculpted by Texas artist Max Greiner Jr. in 1999 and recently installed at NGU. Three of the four sculptures displayed on campus are Greiner’s creations. The other two are “Divine Servant” (installed in 1996) and “Fisher of Men” (installed in 2000). “Gethsemane,” installed in 2004, was designed by Greenville artist Douglas R. Young.

“The Great Commission sculpture is a wonderful addition to our campus and will remind us every day about the importance of sharing Jesus Christ with others,” said NGU president Jimmy Epting.

Greiner is best known for his Christian sculptures, even though his work also includes landscape oil paintings, jewelry, and wildlife bronzes. His art is collected in all 50 states and in more than two dozen countries. – NGU
