I wish to write about what might be the best-kept secret in the South Carolina Baptist Convention. On Nov. 14, I had the privilege to hear the Singing Churchmen in concert at First Baptist Church, Clearwater.
One of the men in the group is a member of the church I pastor and he has been telling us of their concerts and mission activities. Many members of our church went to the concert at Clearwater. It is impossible to express fully just how outstanding this time of praise and worship was.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of attending many musical events that were a great blessing to me and a truly enjoyable experience. I wish to take nothing away from any of those times or the musicians and their ministries, but nothing can come close to the joy, refreshing, and blessing I received as the Singing Churchmen played hand bells, other instruments, and sang inspirational songs from classical to modern choruses.
The director, Mark Powers, and all the men deserve a big thank you for their efforts and using the gifts God gave them to His glory. All who attended could tell they enjoyed themselves as they lifted their voices to the Lord. We all received such a wonderful blessing.
I would encourage everyone in the state convention to take the time to attend one of their remaining concerts when they come near to your town this year. You will not regret for one minute the time spent.
Editor’s note: The place and dates for the 2012 winter and spring concerts of the Singing Churchmen are: First Baptist, North Myrtle Beach, Jan. 12; Second Baptist, Kershaw, Feb. 20; First Baptist, Fountain Inn, March 12; and Grace Baptist, Sumter, May 15.
