Easley community responds to church’s drama on afterlife

Death is inevitable, and many are curious about what happens after life on earth ends – both for the believer and the non-believer. Members of Rock Springs Baptist Church, Easley, acted out those scenarios in their sixth annual drama, “Death’s Door.”

An estimated 5,000 people attended the performances, and there were more than 400 recorded decisions.

Minister of music Don Gibson said the presentation’s elaborate lighting, sound, costumes and backdrops are all designed to introduce the gospel. ” ‘Death’s Door’ is a high-impact and compelling presentation of the reality of Jesus Christ – and a person’s choice in life determining where they will spend eternity,” Gibson said.

“Facing death brings it home to people that they need to make sure they’ve made the right decisions concerning Christ,” said pastor David Gallamore.

Audiences experience a crucifixion scene early in the drama, then are introduced to several characters and watch their experiences after death – in heaven and in hell. The biblical reality of Christ and Satan (described in 1 Peter 5:8 as one who is “seeking whom he may devour”) are clearly depicted.

Some respond to the drama’s message with urgency. Gallamore told of a high school senior who asked if he could speak with Gallamore during a performance. The two left the auditorium, Gallamore shared the gospel with the teenager, he prayed to receive Christ, then both went back to watch the remainder of the drama.
