In new book, Shivers prods Christians toward ‘want-to’ evangelism

As a sequel to his book, “Soulwinning 101,” evangelist-author Frank Shivers of Columbia moves from the “how to” of evangelism to the “want to” in a just-released volume entitled “Spurs to Soul Winning.”

His new book carries the subtitle “531 Motivations for Soul Winning” and contains a collection of “striking appeals and incentives for soul winning” from a wide range of notables, from R.A. Torrey and C .H. Spurgeon to Adrian Rogers and John Bisagno.

Looking at what he terms “a failure regarding the primary mandate of Scripture for the Christian to win souls,” Shivers says in the preface to his new book, “I believe it has far more to do with the believer’s ‘want to’ than the ‘how to.’ To win souls requires intentionality.”

He continues, “Christians do not drift into soul winning; they are motivated to do it. Soul winners are enlisted.”

Shivers, a vocational evangelist since 1974, said his book of “simple and concise challenges” should help the believer develop and maintain a “soul focus.” He noted that the reader may, if desired, read a single selection each day as a “continuous spur to his heart to witness.”

Shivers is a graduate of Charleston Southern University and New Orleans Baptist Seminary. In addition to his speaking engagements, he hosts student camps and retreats at his Longridge Camp and Retreat Center in Ridgeway. Additional information on the book is available at FrankShivers.com.
