Letters: Returning to our roots

The Baptist Courier

As I think on Southern Baptists – my conviction is not a need for a name change, but for us to get back to our roots. Southern Baptists have stood for many things. Mostly, we have been people who love the Savior, love the Scripture, love the saints, and love the sinner. I believe it is these four areas for which Baptists abroad have been known, and I am proud. But we have gotten away from this approach, and my call is for us to get back to these roots.

There is only one name that can change a culture, and it is the name that is above every name: the name of Jesus Christ. If we get back to these four areas, we will begin to see results and a revival we all seek for. Then may it be said of us in our moment in history, as was said of the apostle Paul: “These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also” (Acts 17:6).
