The LifeWay survey on evolution and the age of the earth should wake up believers. Six thousand years was posited because of clear teaching in Genesis. Ussher calculated the creation to be around 4,000 B.C. The millions of years came from scientists attempting to explain the creation apart from God. Uniformitarian geology was founded by Lyell, who admitted his goal was to rid the world of Moses. Darwin followed with his evolutionary theories of life. The church began believing the fallible science and compromising the Scriptures. While two-thirds of pastors believe in a literal Adam and Eve, only one-third believe in a young earth. How inconsistent is that? Jesus believed in a literal Adam and placed him at the beginning of the creation (Mark 10:6). Clearly, Jesus was young earth.
Dr. Mohler, president of Southern Seminary, has recently pointed out that the doctrine of creation is inseparably linked to the doctrine of redemption, and that if we don’t get Genesis right, we don’t have a gospel. He said, “What is most lacking in the evangelical movement today is a consideration of the theological cost of holding to an old earth.” The survey confirms Dr. Mohler’s view, as the Genesis creation is avoided in our pulpits and is too controversial to many, as it conflicts mightily with the godless-dominated science, education establishment, and media. The world is being indoctrinated with the satanic lie of evolution, and our youth are leaving the faith because of it, as other surveys show. And the church continues to fail to reach and equip its people, proclaiming a gospel with no foundation. Every basic Christian doctrine has its foundation in Genesis. To ignore or compromise is to build on sand instead of our Rock, the Creator, Jesus Christ.
