Letter: ‘Astute’ editor to be missed

The Baptist Courier

In a time when almost every word is scrutinized for indications of whose side is he on, Don Kirkland has performed a magnificent service to the Baptists of South Carolina. It is hard to believe that he is retiring at the end of the year. His dedication as an astute editor and writer will be sorely missed. Don has established and maintained an example of trustworthiness and integrity that will be hard to replace. I am reminded of the ultimate compliment that the late president of Furman University, Dr. John Plyler, was so fond of employing: “He is a Christian gentleman.”

I look forward to whatever assignment God has for Don. He will tackle it with both diligence and grace. Thank you for a job well done. All South Carolina Baptists owe you a great debt of gratitude.
