Letter: Don’t trim seminary funds

The Baptist Courier

The editor’s Commentary on March 1, “It’s Not Too Much to Ask,” suggests that seminaries should be willing to take fewer Cooperative Program dollars in order for more dollars to reach the unreached. While it may not be too much to ask of an institution, the institution will pass those losses along to students in the form of increased fees. I think that is too much to ask of struggling seminarians who are preparing to take over for us fading warhorses as we head toward retirement in amazing numbers over the next decade.

Maybe it’s not too much to ask churches to give sacrificially to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering – that gets money directly to the International Mission Board.

While I want to get more to reach the billions who have never heard the gospel, I don’t want to withdraw funds from those struggling to prepare to be the foot soldiers in reaching the unreached.
