Children’s Ministry Day is an opportunity to get the children of Sherwood Baptist Church, Lancaster, involved in missions.

Recently, over several weeks, the children and their leaders collected glass baby food jars from church members. The jars were washed and sterilized. Labels with Bible verses were made by the children ahead of time.
The children gathered at the church early on a Saturday morning, ready to do a project. Some were not sure what a mission project was, but were ready and eager to find out.
They started by helping prepare an instant spice tea mix. Some scooped ingredients and dumped them into a big pan. Others stirred the ingredients together. Then all stepped up to the pan and with a scoop and funnel filled their jars with the mixture. Once all the jars were filled, the boys helped spray-paint the lids black and the girls helped prepare cards (with stickers, of course) for each basket of tea jars. Then they loaded up for a trip to the hospital.
Once there, the children presented the receptionist with a jar of tea and excitedly explained to her what it was and how to use it. Then the group filed into an elevator. The next stop was met by curious nurses who were smiling as the children explained their project. Their mission was to let the nurses and staff of Springs Memorial Hospital know the children loved them and were praying for them as they cared for the sick.
At each floor, staff members were presented with a basket of tea, including the housekeeping department.
The last stop was the emergency room. Two nurses at the window smiled as the two youngest children explained what was in the jar and how to use it. “Add hot water and it makes tea. We made it for you,” they repeated.
