South Carolina Showcase for March 1, 2012

Inman Mills Baptist Church, Inman, celebrated Polly Boyce Appreciation Day on Jan. 15, in honor of long-time organist Polly Boyce, who recently retired after 50 years of service. In addition to the special Sunday service, the congregation presented an appreciation award and check to Boyce, and held a luncheon following the service. Union County Baptist Association recently recognized Eugenia Morgan (center) for 33 years of service as treasurer of the association. Presenting her with a plaque of appreciation are moderator Robert Chapman (left) and director of missions David Blanton.

 

Bellview Baptist Church, Woodruff, recently welcomed two new staff members: Kimberly Lanford (left), children’s director; and Jami Guker, youth director. Both are longtime members of Bellview.

 

The congregation of Nixville Baptist Church, Allendale-Hampton Association, gathered on Nov. 20 to celebrate the church’s homecoming and to hold a special groundbreaking and dedication service for a new family life center. Charles Jenkins, pastor of Memorial Baptist Church in Aiken, had the honor of baptizing his 10-year-old granddaughter, Shelby Jo Higgenbottom, on Jan. 1. Jenkins, who has a total of 10 grandchildren, has baptized each of them.

 

A recent Bible study at Trinity Way Baptist Church, Greenville, led by member Teeka Holtzclaw, was the inspiration for what became a churchwide outreach to the community on Feb. 10 – resulting in donations of coats, blankets, and 100 boxes of food from Harvest Hope food bank.

 

Second Baptist Church, Manning, ordained Timothy Lewis Hinson to the ministry on Feb. 12. He currently serves as youth pastor there, and also works as an EMT for Clarendon Memorial Hospital. Pictured with Hinson (right) are Marvin Alsbrook and pastor Pec Chatham.

 

Susan and Matt Lewis, members of Marion Baptist Church, Marion Association, made church history last year when they celebrated the birth of quadruplets. It was the first recorded birth of quadruplets in the 150-year history at Marion Church.
