A Sumter teenager has been recognized by National WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union) as one of three National Top Teens for her involvement in missions.
SwygertMakayla Swygert, an Acteen at Bethel Baptist Church, was named for the honor.
Each January, National WMU selects a small group of young women to represent Acteens through the National Top Teens. The group is chosen based on strong involvement with and dedication to Christ and missions, as well as strong leadership and service in church, school and community.
As a Top Teen, Swygert will represent WMU at meetings across South Carolina and will write for the South Carolina WMU’s newsletter and Facebook pages. She will also serve on this year’s WMU State Youth Panel. Swygert served as a South Carolina Top Teen in 2010 and is currently serving as a South Carolina WMU state panelist.
She is a junior at Laurence Manning Academy, where she is a member of the Anchor Club, History Club and Beta Club. She is also vice president of the National Honor Society and co-chaplain for student council.
