Holly Springs Baptist Church, Inman, honored Jannings Dill, left, with the title of deacon emeritus on Jan. 29 for more than 50 years of service as a deacon. Presenting a plaque of appreciation to Dill is Holly Springs pastor Tim Clark.

 

Memorial Baptist Church, Olar, recently held its 10th annual Valentine’s Day fundraiser for Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. Children decorated shoeboxes and collected a total of $950, bringing total donations for the 10-year period to $6,162. Kimberly Rodrigues was crowned queen and Colin Carter was crowned king for collecting the most money this year.

 

Eight couples from Wren Baptist Church, Piedmont, participated in a marriage vow renewal service on Feb. 12. Pictured with the couples is pastor Harold Sanders (behind pulpit), who conducted the service.

 

M. Fred DeFoor Jr. was honored recently for 25 years of ministry at St. Andrews Baptist Church, Columbia. DeFoor, minister of music, received the Order of the Silver Crescent from the state of South Carolina, a trip to New York, letters of gratitude from the congregation, and an anthem to be composed in his honor by Milburn Price, former professor of church music at Southern Seminary and Samford University. A native of Greenville, DeFoor is a graduate of Furman University and Southern Seminary. He and his wife Cindy have two daughters and one grandchild.

 

The Children in Action and Mission Friends of Nebo Baptist Church, Britton’s Neck, recently delivered baskets of school supplies to the Florence campus of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. Amy Richardson, Kim Cribb and Sharon Boyd are the group leaders at Nebo.

 

Memorial Baptist Church, St. George, recently honored Lurleen Weeks, the oldest member of the church, on her 103rd birthday. She has served in many capacities at Memorial Baptist, including Sunday school teacher, director of church training, choir and WMU. Glenda Faulkenberry, a member of White Bluff Baptist Church, Kershaw, made 65 pillowcase dresses for young girls in Africa and displayed some of the dresses during the church’s WMU Focus Sunday in February.

 

Youth from First Baptist churches in Honea Path and Belton joined other youth in the area for Discipleship Now Weekend (also known as D-Now) on March 2-4. During the weekend, they gathered for worship services, meals, recreation and group mission projects. Student leaders from Anderson and North Greenville universities conducted Bible studies, and evangelist Algernon Tennyson of Awaken International Ministries was guest speaker. The event, which concluded with Sunday morning worship at Honea Path First Baptist, was planned by youth pastors Jamie Williams (Honea Path) and Nick Kirby (Belton).

 

The congregation of Ridge Spring Baptist Church, Ridge Association, honored pastor Chris Yeargin and his wife Marcia on Jan. 29 for their fifth anniversary of service to the church.

 

New Life Baptist Church, Greenwood, celebrated its 28th anniversary on Feb. 5 and dedicated a new multipurpose building that is debt-free. Building committee members are Brandon Langley, Lottie Hammond, Cliff Shealey, and pastor Bud Tumblin.
