I think Mr. Jenkins has hit the nail on the head (“Your Views,” June 21). The church in the United States has come so far from its intended purpose that it’s almost unrecognizable as the Body of Christ.
Love has taken a back seat, passion for the lost is almost gone, and study of the Word is something done only by the ones hired to do it. We are a perfect fit for the mold of the Laodecean church. I fear we have been overrun by weeds. False doctrines have crept in, and democracy has been made acceptable in a theocracy. Jesus Christ is the head of the church; democracy is the world’s way.
We have been given clear instructions by our Lord. Settle down in a comfortable church building? Not so! Go, teach, preach, make disciples, baptize in My name. What was the charge laid to the Laodecean church? “You are lukewarm!” Pathetic, no passion, no fire, no zeal. We don’t want anything, we don’t need anything.
There needs to be great and dramatic reform within the church bought about by humble, godly men who have not yet lost that zeal for God and his Word. Each one of us who professes to be a disciple of Jesus Christ should examine ourselves by the Word to see if we need to open the door to Christ and fellowship with him (Revelation 3:20) or if we will be spewed out of his mouth.
