Obituary: Mike McGee

Michael Lewis McGee, 82, of Spartanburg, a long-serving pastor, died Aug. 25, 2012.

Born in Walhalla, on Aug. 23, 1930, he was a graduate of Mars Hill College and Furman University. He was ordained to the ministry in 1952 and received his master of divinity degree from Southern Seminary in 1955.

He was a full-time pastor for 45 years at seven different Baptist churches. After retirement in 1996, he served as interim pastor at 12 additional churches and provided pulpit supply for more than 50 churches between his interim pastorates.

McGee was pastor emeritus at Morningside Baptist Church, Spartanburg. He volunteered for Mobile Meals of Spartanburg for 15 years and coordinated the chaplaincy program at St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic for 12 years.

Survivors include four children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was recently preceded in death by Jo Rice McGee, his wife of 60 years.
