Trustees of the Baptist Foundation of South Carolina recently awarded three $2,500 scholarships to students at South Carolina’s three Baptist universities.

Each year, trustees contribute to an annual scholarship fund to provide support to students from South Carolina Baptist universities who are pursuing full-time Christian vocations
Recipients of the scholarships were:
– Ben Ashley, a junior Christian ministry major at Anderson University. Ashley, a father of three, came to know Christ in his 30s. In order to be able to better provide for his family, he began studies in pre-engineering at Anderson but changed his major after heeding God’s call to preach. He and his wife, Ashley, are members of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Belton.
– Allen Lindholt, a junior religion major at Charleston Southern University. Lindholt grew up in a Christian home in Kansas and felt the call to the ministry as a teen. He joined the Marines after graduating from high school, and his service eventually brought him to Charleston. He completed his military service and began his studies at CSU. Lindholt was married a little over a year ago and has recently been called to serve as part-time youth director at First Baptist Church, Goose Creek. He plans to attend seminary and eventually become a full-time vocational pastor.
– Ashlyn Giles, a senior Christian studies major at North Greenville University. She is a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Greer, and is assisting a church plant, 4 Points Church in Duncan, with ministry outreach. She also recently served as a “hands on” missionary to India for six months through the International Mission Board. She plans to serve in evangelism, outreach and missions.
The Baptist Foundation administers several scholarship endowments that benefit students, primarily those who will be pursuing full-time Christian service. The Trustee Scholarship, however, is fully funded by current and former trustees, and the award amounts are dependent upon contributions made each year.
Foundation scholarship applications can be obtained by contacting the foundation office at 803-227-6193. The application deadline is April 30 of each year.
