I think the best way for the church to grow today is to expose Satan’s plan to get the American church self-deceived and prideful. When too many church members do not know enough of the gospel and fundamentals of our faith, we turn to gimmicks, games and personalities of staff and church members to grow the church, rather than relying on the Holy Spirit to use the gospel through them. Our foundations are weak, and our churches in America are crumbling simply because we just don’t know what we should know.
Pride is holding us back from correcting this problem. We are in desperate need for the leadership in the churches to love Jesus enough to be hated for his cause, even if that hatred comes from within the church. It is going to take strong leaders who care more about their standing before Jesus than their standing in the church to turn this weakness into a strength.
We must get away from a consumer type of Christianity where we only take it in. We take in the music, we take in the preaching, yet we barely allow it to scratch the surface. We need to have an understanding that coming to church is only a small part of our Christian walk. We have to get our people to understand that the Great Commission was given to every saved person, and it isn’t just the job of the pastor and staff to grow the kingdom. If you are saved, it is your job to tell someone the good news of the gospel – a complete gospel that includes biblical repentance. If we repent, turn back to God and start teaching the fundamentals of the gospel and our faith, we can use it to grow churches and the kingdom.
We don’t have to have the best understanding of the fundamentals to expose what others do not know. We just have to do it in such a way that is loving and with an attitude that we want to grow in Christ together.
