Kirkland retirement reception Nov. 13 at SCBC annual meeting

The Baptist Courier

A reception for retiring Baptist Courier editor Don Kirkland and his wife, Linda, will be held from 4 to 5 p.m., Nov. 13, in the lower atrium of the TD Convention Center in Greenville during the annual meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

The event is open to all.

Kirkland, 69, announced in March that he will retire at the end of December, capping a career with the Courier that began in 1974. He has served as editor for 16 years.

He has spent 42 years in denominational work, having served at Anderson and Furman universities before joining the staff of the Courier.

He is a member of Earle Street Baptist Church in Greenville, where he was licensed to the ministry, and he is a former president of the Association of State Baptist Papers of the Southern Baptist Convention.

He and his wife, Linda, a teacher at Riverside High School, have two children and five grandchildren.

In September, Courier trustees elected Rudy Gray, a South Carolina pastor and writer, to succeed Kirkland.
