Letter: ‘God-given’ outreach opportunity

The Baptist Courier

I’m writing with concern over an opportunity that awaits our churches, many of which aren’t taking advantage of a God-given outreach possibility.

Our church, Inman Mills Baptist, has been hosting the Chapman High School football team at a “Breakfast of Champions” every Friday morning for the last two seasons. Our men’s ministry prepares a home-cooked breakfast and has an inspirational speaker at 7:15 a.m. every Friday during football season and has the team out in time to travel to school in a safe manner. Our church family has given each player a Life Application Study Bible for the last two years. What better way to minister to student athletes than by developing relationships and giving them God’s Word?

My concern is that there are churches in close proximity to high schools that are not taking advantage of this open door. I know of several schools in our area that would welcome the idea. We are certainly not the model, but we have been blessed through this time with these young people.
