Letter: Thank God for Jesus

The Baptist Courier

Having moved away from our Thanksgiving feasts, we sit in a lull. We have thanked God for our families, our jobs, our homes, and all our comforts.

Recently, in this lull, I sat across from a friend. She waited on coffee; I got lost in the smell and thought of “scattered, smothered, and covered.” What an analogy! As the smell permeated my brain, I thought: What if we would more readily and passionately scatter the word of God, smother and cover the lost with the Word of God, and teach others the delight in Christ’s covering our sins with His blood?

After I shared, my friend replied, “Thank God for Jesus.” Pensively, our server asked, “Did you just say, ‘Thank God for Jesus?’ I’ve never heard that.”

In December, others expect us to celebrate, praise and worship. We have thanked God for all that we literally have before us. As we celebrate and offer praises, let us humble ourselves and remember to give thanks. Someone may be listening when you say aloud, “Thank God for Jesus” – his precious gift to us all.
