George Albert Bowdler Jr., 92, of Saluda, died Jan. 25, 2013.
Born Sept. 5, 1920, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Bowdler was a son of missionaries in Argentina. Prior to returning to the United States, Bowdler served in the Argentine military.
After graduating from Columbia Bible College, Furman University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, he served as pastor of a church in Louisiana and at Denny Terrace Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C.
He then went to Guatemala as a missionary for the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board. He later served as chaplain at Baptist Hospital in Columbia and taught at USC-Aiken until his retirement in 1985. Following retirement, he moved to Panama City, Fla., where he co-founded Capstone House, a spiritual information center.
Survivors include four children. He was predeceased by his wife, Caroline Bowdler, and a son.
