Letter: NGU extended grace and goodness

The Baptist Courier

It is really interesting to hear of “all” the supposed complaints about a local grade school holding their graduation at Turner Auditorium on the campus of North Greenville University. It is also interesting that no one came forward to voice their complaint personally but, rather, hid behind an out-of-town humanist group. The gist of the complaint was where it was held (a church setting) and that a prayer was said by one of the students. My question is, why do these people spend all of their time trying to discount the existence of a Creator God? Is it because they themselves are afraid their own children might hear and believe? I’ll leave it to them to answer this question.

As to North Greenville University, I had the privilege of serving on staff for several years, and I can assure anyone that president Jimmy Epting was expressing the grace and goodness that has always been offered to anyone seeking housing there. These same people would do well to read the Bible and the words of Jesus. In Matthew 16:18, he said, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this Rock (Jesus), I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.”

The really sad thing about this story is that Jesus died for the sins of all mankind, and very soon there is a time coming when each of us will stand before him in a day of judgment, when it will be determined where we will spend all eternity. One thing I am sure of is that Dr. Jimmy Epting, all of the staff of NGU and all Christians want everyone to spend eternity in the place where love prevails.
