During a summer break week when one would expect to see middle and high school students heading out of town to the beach, Hampton and Varnville residents will notice a group of teens getting dirty and working hard to improve their communities. From June 16-21, Sand Hill Baptist Church will host “Student Missions in the Lowcountry,” a local outreach event focused on changing lives where we live.

Kyle Jones will serve as worship leader at Sand Hill Baptist Church during Student Missions in the Lowcountry week, June 16-21.
Nothing can change your life like having a direct “Collision with Christ.” Gabe Dodd, missionary and church planter from Alpharetta, Ga., will lead the 35-member mission team in daily training centered on living a missional lifestyle and being completely “wrecked” for Jesus (so devoted to Him that all distractors in life become inconsequential). Kyle Jones, also from Georgia, will serve as music worship leader. Residing together on the Sand Hill Baptist campus, the team will train and go out to serve together on the front lines of missions in the Lowcountry.
The mission event has been a year in planning. In the last two years, Sand Hill has sent mission teams to Boston and Minneapolis, but this year the team responded to God’s call to serve locally. “The decision to stay home and serve this year seemed obvious,” said pastor George Skinner, the mission team coordinator. “God has affirmed the decision as community businesses and individuals have stepped up with generous donations of resources that will make numerous projects possible.”
Area projects will include building and improvements at schools and a neighborhood block party with free hot dogs and games for families. A free concert by Kyle Jones & Band will kick off the week on June 16, at 7 p.m. at Sand Hill Baptist Church (15480 Pocotaligo Road, Varnville).
“It is our prayer that through our experiences with God in the field, God will change a life, and, in turn, change our community for Christ,” Skinner said.
