South Carolina’s three Southern Baptist-affiliated universities awarded a total of 1,225 undergraduate and graduate degrees during spring commencement ceremonies in May.
At Anderson University on May 4, 325 graduates braved chilly morning temperatures for the school’s annual outdoor service beneath the oaks on the campus’s front lawn. David L. Warren, president of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, was keynote speaker.
Charleston Southern University conferred 600 degrees on May 4 at North Charleston Coliseum. J. Frank Bullard III, coastal regional president for BB&T, was the guest speaker. Two new degree programs — graphic design and organizational management — graduated their first classes.
North Greenville University’s 300 graduates took part in the school’s first outdoor commencement service on May 9 at Younts Stadium. More than 4,000 were in attendance as Thomas E. Barton, president emeritus of Greenville Technical College, delivered the keynote address.
