Zella Woody, long-serving S.C. missions educator, dies

Zella Dew Woody, who served for more than three decades with South Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union before retiring in 1995, died June 23, 2013, in Columbia.

A Meredith College graduate, she earned her master’s degree in Christian education at the WMU Training School of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

At South Carolina WMU, she led missions education for several age-level organizations including YWA, Baptist Young Women and Baptist Women. A well-known Baptist missions speaker, retreat leader and trainer, she spoke and taught across the Southeast and other states and led missions conferences at Ridgecrest and Glorieta Baptist centers.

She was a member of Columbia First Baptist Church and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
