Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church, Bishopville, did not end in June. A new ministry was formed for children to share the songs they learned in VBS as a ministry to three nursing homes in Bishopville.
The program, called “The God of Angel Armies Is with You,” leaves the Colossal Coaster World theme behind and focuses on the “Facing Fears” part of the original theme, based on 2 Timothy 1:7.
The children practiced in June and July for the special mission project, which they presented in August.
Some of the children led in a puppet show. Puppeteers included Hunter Christmas, Alex Garrick, Bryan Meyers, Regenea Reddick, Nathan Garrick and Joel Seymour.
Hannah Seymour, a youth helper, led a choir of children singing VBS songs in the program. Some of the employees at the Cottonwood nursing facility had children who had attended the VBS, and they joined in singing with the choir. Several were K5 children, but they knew all the songs and motions and delighted the patients.
The two other nursing homes the children visited were Bishopville Manor and McCoy’s Nursing Home.
The children’s ministry is under the direction of Sylvia Seymour. After teaching in VBS, Seymour said she felt that what the children learned in VBS should be shared with others.
Other leaders included Janice Garrick, Robin Christmas, Cathy McCaskill and Ruth Meyers.
