July sees ‘uptick’ in state CP giving

Cooperative Program giving from South Carolina Baptist churches improved in July but still trails budgeted goals for the year.

Gifts received through the first seven months of 2013 totaled nearly $16 million, which was 3.91 percent short of budgeted needs, according to information released by Pam Carroll, chief financial officer of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

July receipts of $2.7 million helped narrow a giving deficit that stood at 6.83 percent at the end of June.

“We are grateful for the uptick in Cooperative Program giving during July and pray that our churches will continue to experience God’s blessings in this and all other areas of ministry,” said Jim Austin, SCBC executive director-treasurer.

Austin noted that CP support from churches will help fund kickoff banquets for the convention’s Intentional Church Multiplication Process (church revitalization) clusters that begin in August.

At the national level, contributions to Southern Baptist national and international missions and ministries received through July by the SBC Executive Committee were 0.26 percent below budgeted goals and 2.78 percent below contributions received during the same time frame last year.
