North Greenville University’s Turner Chapel will be the site of the school’s annual area crusade, scheduled for Aug. 18-21. Sponsored by Three Rivers Baptist Association and NGU, the event hopes to bring together the university and the community to “worship the Lord, focus on the gospel, and encourage spiritual growth,” said LaVerne Howell, director for public relations at North Greenville. “It is a traditional way the university starts the new academic year and sets the spiritual tone for the semester.”
Keynote speaker for the event will be Ken Fentress, senior pastor of Montrose Baptist Church in Rockville, Md., since 2007. Fentress earned a bachelor’s degree from Criswell College in Dallas, a master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and both master’s and doctor’s degrees from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. He formerly served as dean of intercultural programs and associate pastor of Hebrew and Old Testament interpretation at Southern Seminary. Fentress and his wife, Linda, are the parents of three children.
The crusade, which is scheduled for 7 p.m., is open to the public.
