Upstate pastor publishes memoir

Jack Hester, a pastor who has served Upstate churches for more than 62 years, has written an autobiography, “My Story for His Glory.”

Hester bookSubtitled “From Baseball to the Bible, from the Mill Hill to Calvary’s Hill,” the book traces Hester’s life from his youthful years as a talented baseball player to today as an 83-year-old preacher who doesn’t know what it means to really retire.

“I turned down a large contract from professional baseball and concentrated on what I felt was a stronger calling to share the word of God,” Hester said in a story published in the Pickens County Courier.

Hester is interim pastor at Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Pickens. He began his ministry at Grace Baptist Church in Simpsonville, where he served for more than 25 years. He later served at Powdersville First Baptist Church and Nine Forks Baptist Church in Dacusville.
