The inaugural “Experiencing God at Home” conference slated for Sept. 16 and 17 in Lexington has been canceled due to poor response.
The conference was to have been led by Richard and Tom Blackaby and their adult children.
“Registration just never developed,” said Johnny Rumbough, director of missions for Lexington Baptist Association, sponsor of the event. “I am not sure if people understood that the conference was about the family. Three years ago we had 300 people for a different Blackaby conference.”
Riverland Hills Baptist Church was the venue initially chosen for the event, but that was changed to the offices of Lexington Association when registrations were lower than the required threshold.
Registration fees were eliminated and replaced with a special offering to be supplemented with funds from the association. When that generated only seven registrations, the decision was made to cancel the event, Rumbough said.
