Visiting scholar to speak at CSU about ‘eclipse’ of Christianity

Gregory Thornbury, president of The King’s College, New York City, will be the keynote speaker March 4 at Charleston Southern University’s 2014 Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture Series.

Thornbury will present three lectures in which he explores past eclipses of the faith, the recent eclipse of Christianity in the United States and the appropriate response to the current situation from believers in both the church and academy. The lectures are free and open to all.

Throughout history, the Christian faith has experienced seasons of eclipse — times when its influence and practice have decreased where it once flourished. With the dawn of the 21st century, Christianity in the United States has experienced a similar reduction in influence.

The lectures are hosted by the Worldview Institute of the Center for Christian Leadership. For more information, contact Michael L. Bryant in the School of Christian Studies at mbryant@csuniv.edu or 843-863-7973.
