Laurens Second Baptist Church events

Winter has brought a flurry of activity to the congregation of Laurens Second Baptist Church:

— In December, they surpassed their Lottie Moon Christmas Offering goal of $7,000.

— On Jan. 22, the church hosted a concert by the Singing Churchmen and set a record for the highest attendance in its 117-year history.

— Members observed “Soup-er Bowl Sunday” on Feb. 1 and responded to a challenge issued by pastor J.D. Shiflet to collect non-perishable food items for the Laurens County Baptist Association Crisis Center. Deacons, staff and their wives, and other church members competed to see which group could contribute the most canned goods — for a total of 451 items donated.

— Laurens Second Baptist called Nancy Cook as church pianist. She and her husband, Ray, reside at Martha Franks Retirement Community.
