Carey S. McElveen, of Lake City, a retired pastor, died Feb. 8, 2015, at the McLeod Hospice House.

He pastored the following churches: Lynchburg Baptist, Scranton Baptist, Pageland First Baptist and Manning First Baptist. He also was interim pastor for Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and New Zion Baptist Church.

He graduated from Francis Marion University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a master’s degree in theology and a doctorate in family counseling.

He was a member and pastor emeritus of Scranton Baptist Church after retiring from the ministry due to health reasons.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Nell McElveen, a daughter and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son in November 2014.
