Seniors sing once again at beachside choir festival

Senior-adult singers gathered at Springmaid Resort in Myrtle Beach Feb. 22-23 to sing God’s praise.

The South Carolina Baptist Senior Adult Choir Festival brought them together from 11 churches, large and small, for the first Senior Adult Choir Festival in at least eight years.

Participants unanimously called for it to return as an annual offering. The Worship & Music Office of the SCBC has agreed and is planning to offer the event again in February 2016.

IMG_7407Bob and Esther Burroughs, residents of South Carolina, served as music director and devotional leader, respectively, for the event. Bob is the retired music director for the Florida Baptist Convention and a well known clinician and composer-arranger. Esther is retired from the North American Mission Board and is a sought-after leader of conferences and retreats.

Participants learned six songs and presented them in a worship concert directed by Bob. Esther shared devotional insights to the song texts throughout. One song featured accompaniment by a three-octave handbell choir consisting of the leaders of the choirs, and three of the participating choirs were invited to sing for the gathering as a special feature.
