Obituary: Fred Hammett Brown

Fred Hammett Brown, 85, of Greer, died May 16, 2015.

Born Feb. 10, 1930, he grew up in the Cedar Spring Community of Spartanburg. He received a call to ministry while a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church at the age of 20, and he went on to graduate from Mars Hill Junior College, Furman University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He pastored New Hope Baptist Church in Cross Anchor, was associate pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg, and pastored Northwood Baptist Church in Greer and First Baptist Church in Dillon before retiring and serving as interim pastor of Double Springs Baptist Church and Mount Lebanon Baptist Church of Greer. Brown served as a trustee of The Baptist Courier and was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his second wife, Judy Buchanan Brown, four children and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Vera Hayes Brown.
