Obituary: James T. Sloan

James T. Sloan, of Woodruff, a long-serving pastor and director of missions, died June 23, 2015.

He was a graduate Luther Rice Bible College and Seminary and received a doctorate in theology from International Bible Institution Seminary and Bible College.

He served as pastor of Poe Baptist Church in Greenville, West Pelzer Baptist Church, Rice Memorial Baptist Church, Clearview Baptist Church, and Northwest Baptist Church in Travelers Rest.

After retirement from the active pastorate due to health concerns, he was called as director of missions for Woodruff Baptist Association in 1997, where he served until his death.

Sloan served with the Army National Guard for more than 25 years. For many years, he was chaplain to the police and fire departments of Travelers Rest and later served as chaplain for the Woodruff Police Department.

Survivors include his wife, Feryl Johnson Sloan, two children and six grandchildren.
