South Carolina Christians urged to attend Aug. 29 pro-family rally in Columbia

Churches across the Carolinas and surrounding states are rallying together on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, in support of biblical marriage and religious liberty. The Office of Public Policy of the South Carolina Baptist Convention is calling upon Christians  in South Carolina to gather on the steps of the State House in Columbia.

Voters in 36 states – including 78 percent in South Carolina – have voted in favor of a constitutional definition of marriage based on the biblical standard of one man and one woman. “The Supreme Court decided to violate the U.S. Constitution and the state constitutions of every respective state that voted for traditional marriage,” said Mark Hendrick, associate director of the SCBC’s Office of Public Policy.

“As citizens and patriots we cannot support nor obey the Supreme Court’s decision on same-sex marriage,” said Hendrick. “The repercussions of this decision will have far-reaching negative effects on the religious liberties of churches, Christian ministries and individuals.”

“We must stand and oppose those who disdain our nation’s Christian heritage.”
